A cloud computing platform and infrastructure for building, deploying and managing applications and services through a worldwide network of Microsoft-managed datacenters.
Correct the name and address in the Microsoft account used for the Azure for Students application, wait for the changes to propagate, and then retry the application with that same account.
Correct the personal details
- Open the Microsoft account profile and sign in with the personal Microsoft account used for the application.
- Select Edit name, enter your legal name exactly as your educational institution records it, and select Save.
- Open Billing & shipping addresses, correct the street address and postal code, and select Save.
- Allow up to 24 hours for the name change to appear across Microsoft services. ^1^
- Return to the Azure for Students application and retry using the same corrected Microsoft account. This correction-and-retry process resolved a closely matching case involving an incorrect name during student registration. ^2^
Ensure the profile details are complete and accurate before retrying. Azure’s sign-up guidance specifically checks the contact email, street address, telephone number, and other identity information. ^3^
If the student application is now blocked
If retrying reports that the school email was already used for verification, or the incorrect application cannot be edited, submit the Azure for Students support form:
Azure for Students support form
Include:
- The corrected full name.
- The school email used for verification.
- The personal Microsoft account used for the application.
- A brief explanation that the name, address, and postal code were entered incorrectly.
- The exact error message, if one appears.
- A request to review or reset the previous verification attempt.
The dedicated form can be used when an active Azure subscription is unavailable; support can review the student-email verification state. ^4^
If an Azure subscription was already created
Microsoft account details and Azure billing-account details are separate. If the incorrect address also appears on an existing Azure billing account, update that record separately:
- Sign in to the Azure portal.
- Search for Cost Management + Billing.
- Open the applicable billing scope and select Properties.
- For an MOSP billing account, select Update sold to.
- For a Microsoft Customer Agreement billing account, select Update sold-to; or open Billing profiles → applicable profile → Properties → Update address for the bill-to address.
- Enter the corrected address and select Save.
The required role depends on the billing-account type: MOSP requires account-administrator permission, while MCA updates require owner or contributor access on the billing account or billing profile. Some changes can require additional verification or Azure Support approval. ^5^
