Restart Windows, then update or reinstall every pending ARK/Xbox component from Microsoft Store → Library before testing with a fresh Windows user profile.
1. Complete the official 0x87DD0005 sequence
These actions are distinct from updating Windows, resetting the Store cache, or reinstalling Gaming Services:
- Restart the PC using Start → Power → Restart.
- Open Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates.
- Allow updates for ARK: Survival Evolved, Xbox, Microsoft Store, and any related gaming components to finish.
- If ARK or another required component displays Install instead of Open, select Install.
- Restart once more, open the Xbox app, and launch ARK.
Xbox Support identifies 0x87DD0005 as a sign-in/launch error and specifically directs Windows users to restart and check the Store library for an available installation.^1^
2. Test from a new Windows profile
Since cache reset, Xbox app reset, Gaming Services repair/reinstallation, Windows updates, and game reinstallation have already failed, do not repeat them. A temporary profile determines whether the problem is stored in your current Windows user profile.
- Open Settings → Accounts → Other users.
- Select Add account.
- Choose I don’t have this person’s sign-in information → Add a user without a Microsoft account.
- Create a temporary local user.
- Sign out of Windows and sign into that new user.
- Open Microsoft Store and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns ARK or has the applicable Game Pass entitlement.
- Open the Xbox app and sign in with that same account.
- Try launching ARK.
Microsoft documents this account-creation path,^2^ and a similar Xbox sign-in case that had already exhausted Gaming Services, updates, and cache troubleshooting used a new Windows profile as the next isolation test.^3^
- ARK works in the new profile: the original Windows profile is affected. Keep the new profile, change it to an administrator if necessary, and migrate personal files. Microsoft’s profile-recovery instructions cover that process; some apps may need reconfiguration or another sign-in.^4^
- ARK shows 0x87DD0005 there too: the failure is not isolated to the original Windows profile.
3. Escalate an ARK-only failure
If ARK still fails in the new profile while other Xbox games continue working, Xbox Support or ARK’s publisher are the appropriate parties to investigate a title entitlement, retail configuration, or service-side problem. A comparable single-game Xbox PC case was escalated after extensive local troubleshooting failed.^5^
Use the Xbox Support contact page; available categories and contact options can vary by region. Include:
- Error
0x87DD0005 - Windows 11 version
- ARK edition and ownership method—purchase or Game Pass
- Confirmation that other Xbox games launch
- Confirmation that the error occurs in a newly created Windows profile
- Approximate time and time zone of the latest failure
- A screenshot of the error
Do not attempt Partner Center or development-sandbox fixes found for this code. Those instructions apply to game developers testing unpublished Xbox service configurations, not players running the retail ARK package.^6^
