Try these steps in order for Windows 11:
- Check whether Windows can see the audio device.
- Open Start, type Device Manager, and open it.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- If the audio device appears, right-click it and select Enable device if that option is available.
- If no audio device appears, select View > Show hidden devices, then Action > Scan for hardware changes.
- Install the latest audio driver.
- Go to the laptop manufacturer’s support site.
- Download the latest audio driver for the installed Windows version.
- Install it and restart the PC.
- Run the automated audio troubleshooter.
- On Windows 11, run the Audio troubleshooter in the Get Help app.
- It will run diagnostics and attempt to fix the problem automatically.
- Restart the PC.
- Select Start > Power > Restart.
- After restart, check whether the audio device appears.
- If the device appears but there is still no sound, set the correct output device.
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Under Output, select the correct audio device.
- Make sure volume is not muted and the slider is turned up.
- Set the default playback device.
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Under Related settings, select Sound Control Panel.
- On the Playback tab, select the audio device and choose Set Default.
- Update or reinstall the audio driver from Device Manager.
- In Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the sound device and select Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If that does not help, uninstall the audio device and restart the PC so Windows reinstalls the driver automatically.
- Warning: save open work before restarting.
- Check for Windows updates.
- Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates, then restart and test sound again.
If the problem started after a recent update and the audio device is listed in Device Manager, rolling back the audio driver can help:
- Open Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the audio device > Properties > Driver tab > Roll Back Driver.
- Restart the PC.
