The Windows Camera app preview is normally mirrored. The saved photo should appear normal, not reversed.

If the Medicare card looks backward only in the live preview, take the photo first and then check the saved image in the Camera Roll thumbnail.

If the saved image is also reversed:

    1. Open the app being used for the camera.
    2. Look for a setting such as Mirror my video, Flip, or Rotate and turn mirroring off.
    3. Test again in the built-in Camera app:
      • Press Windows key, type Camera, and open it.
      • Take a photo of the card.
      • Check the saved image, not just the preview.

If the goal is to capture the card as a document, the Camera app also supports Document mode on supported cameras:

    1. Open Camera.
    2. Select Document on the right side.
    3. Place the card in view and keep it inside the blue box.
    4. Select Take document.
    5. Open the thumbnail in Camera roll to verify the result.

If Document is not available, that camera does not support document scanning.

    Welcome ELLEN BEAUCHAMP,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that when you try to photograph your Medicare card using your laptop camera, the image appears reversed.

Could you confirm whether the saved photo itself is reversed when you open it in the Photos app? Also, does this happen with every photo containing text, or only when photographing the Medicare card?

Please make sure you already tried the Q&A Assist steps. In addition, please try the following.

    1, Repair the Camera app.

    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps
    • Find Camera and select the three dots > Advanced options
    • Select Repair
    • Restart Camera and test again

2, If the issue continues, reset the Camera app

    • Return to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Camera > Advanced options
    • Select Reset
    • Open Camera and test another photo containing text

3, Check for a camera driver update

    • Right-click Start and select Device Manager
    • Expand Cameras
    • Right-click the laptop camera and select Update driver
    • Select Search automatically for drivers
    • Restart the computer after completing the update

    Looking forward to your update.
