Service: Microsoft Excel (Microsoft 365 / Office desktop version) on Windows.

Scenario: Following the automatic Office update installed on October 6, Microsoft Excel completely fails to launch or display any window in normal mode. The application works correctly when forced into Safe Mode (excel /safe), but standard execution results in a completely blank or non-responsive process. See attached screenshot.

To resolve the conflict, I have already independently performed the following troubleshooting steps without success:

  • Run a Quick Repair via the Windows Settings panel.
  • Verified that the global XLSTART folder is empty.
  • Completely removed the user configuration file (Excel15.xlb).
  • Temporarily disabled all COM and Excel Add-ins while in Safe Mode. Result: Excel still fails to launch in standard mode. I need guidance or advanced technical steps to fix the corrupted update installation, rebuild the broken registration paths, or safely perform a clean reinstallation without losing my application settings. Thank you.

The Quick Repair option rarely resolves the problem, the best option is to perform a full online repair of your Office installation.

Before performing this process, please log into your Microsoft account on this link (https://account.microsoft.com/services/) and check to ensure your Office licence or Microsoft 365 subscription is listed correctly on your account.

    Open the Settings App.

Go to Apps - Installed Apps, then scroll down to find Microsoft Office

Select that and choose Modify - Online Repair

That should fix any issues with your Office Installation.
