Hello,

I am experiencing an issue where the Microsoft SharePoint app on Android does not have access to the device's microphone, and there is no option to enable it.

Issue Details:

  • Problem: The app requires microphone access, but under the Android app settings, the microphone permission is completely missing or cannot be granted.
  • Device: Samsung Galaxy
  • Operating System: Android / One UI

Troubleshooting Already Attempted:

  1. Navigated to Settings > Apps > SharePoint > Permissions, but "Microphone" is either missing or cannot be toggled under the Allowed/Not Allowed sections.
  2. Verified that Samsung's global privacy toggle under Settings > Security and Privacy > Privacy > Microphone Access is turned ON.
  3. Cleared the app cache and data, and attempted a clean reinstallation of the SharePoint app from the Google Play Store, but the microphone permission prompt never appears.

Could you please advise on how to force the app to request microphone permissions, or if this is a known compatibility bug with the current SharePoint Android build on Samsung devices?

Thank you!

Hello @V Esakkimuthu

Based on the information you provided, I understand that the Microphone permission does not appear at all in the SharePoint app’s permission settings on your Samsung device, even after you enabled system-wide microphone access and reinstalled the app.

According to the available documentation, the SharePoint mobile app is primarily designed to provide access to your organisation’s sites, news, files, lists, and other content. I have not found any official documentation confirming that the SharePoint app for Android includes a native audio-recording feature or requires microphone access.

Therefore, if the app does not declare or request access to the microphone, Android will not display Microphone in the app’s permission settings, and users cannot manually force the permission to appear.

Could you please provide some additional information?

  • Which specific SharePoint feature or page requires microphone access? If possible, please provide a screenshot showing the exact screen where the microphone is required.
  • Are you trying to record audio or video, or are you using an embedded component on the page, such as Microsoft Forms, Power Apps, or other web content?
  • What versions of the SharePoint app and Android are currently installed?

If the microphone is required by embedded web content, you could try opening the page directly in a web browser and granting microphone permission to the browser or the SharePoint site when prompted.

I am just another user on this forum, not a Microsoft employee, so I cannot confirm whether this is a known issue. However, the information above should help us understand the situation more clearly and hopefully provide you with further assistance.
