How to get templates to show up when searched in Word?

I literally JUST updated Word on my MAC and now when I go to type in anything in the search bar for templates it automatically says "We couldn't find any templates that matched what you were looking for." This is really inconvenient because in the old version there was an APA 7th edition professional or student paper template option and now nothing will come up when searched. Any help?

I'm seeing "Professional APA Style paper 7th edition" here when I search for templates in Word for Mac. There may be a problem with your installation if it's not showing up.

As an alternative, here's an APA 7th Word file you can download from the University of Wisconsin.

Since you haven't provided specific version information I'm guessing that you've actually adopted one-time purchase Mac Office 2024 replacing an earlier version. I haven't used it but if that's an accurate assumption I understand that there are few templates included with that edition. My understanding is that neither does it provide access to the Connected Experiences which is the source in the MS 365 Subscription software.

If you do have a MS 365 Subscription the reply to confirm Connected Experiences should be the solution provided you have an active internet connection. Otherwise, those still can be used by going through the Word Online web app.

    Dear Kylie,

As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could directly access your account or delve into the backend systems to diagnose and fix this for you. Unfortunately, my role here is limited to providing general guidance and solutions that can be applied by users. Since this started right after the update, the most likely cause is that Word can't reach Microsoft's online template service. The built-in templates are downloaded from there rather than stored on your Mac, and this connection can be turned off or reset during an update. Please try the following:

    1. Open Word and select Word > Preferences > Privacy.
    2. Select Manage Connected Experiences and turn on the options there, especially Experiences that download online content. Select OK.
    3. Quit Word completely with Command + Q, then reopen it.
    4. Go to File > New from Template and search for APA again.

If templates still do not appear, check whether Word is signed in:

    1. Open Word.
    2. Select your profile icon.
    3. Confirm that the licensed Microsoft 365 or university account is shown.
    4. Sign out and back in if necessary.
    5. Try another internet connection temporarily, especially if a VPN, firewall, or campus network is being used.

Also check Word for the web.

I hope this helps. Looking forward to your reply.
