The documented first step is to update Publisher display name under the Developer legal profile; if the Update control is unavailable or rejects the correction, use the direct Dev Center support-case link rather than the broken in-portal page.
Correct the publisher display name
- Sign in to Partner Center with the account that owns the developer enrollment.
- Select Settings (gear) → Account settings.
- Under Organization profile, select Legal profile.
- Open the Developer tab.
- Under Contact info, find Publisher display name and select Update.
- Correct the typo and save.
Microsoft documents the Publisher display name in this location and says the Update link can change contact information such as the publisher display name. The documented roles for this page are Owner and Financial Contributor.^1^
Deleting and recreating the product reservation would not change this field: the reservation is the app/product name, whereas Publisher display name belongs to the developer account.
If Update is absent, the save fails, or verification is requested, keep the existing account and submit an account-management case rather than creating another account.
Reach Store developer support directly
Microsoft provides direct Dev Center support-case routes outside Partner Center’s embedded Contact Support page:
- On the Windows developer support page, under Partner Center and Store support → Store publishers, select the support-case link matching the sign-in type:
- MSA users for a personal Microsoft account.
- Entra ID users for a work or organizational account.
These routes cover Partner Center account management, enrollment, app management, and payouts.^2^
In the case, include:
- Existing support-request number, so a duplicate investigation is less likely.
- Seller ID or developer-account ID, but no credentials.
- Current and corrected Publisher display names.
- Screenshot of Account settings → Legal profile → Developer → Contact info.
- Screenshot showing that the support page never completes loading.
- A statement that this is a one-letter registration typo, not an app-name change.
You can also review the ticket already submitted through Help (?) → View my support requests.^3^
Publishing now versus waiting
Publishing now is possible, but waiting for the correction is the lower-risk option if the first release is not urgent.
PublisherDisplayName is included in the package manifest. When Visual Studio associates the project with the Store—or creates Store packages while signed in with the developer account—it populates that value from the Publisher display name associated with the account.^4^
After the account name is corrected:
- Open the existing product in Partner Center.
- Go to Product management → Product identity.
- Copy the exact current values for:
-
Package/Identity/Name
-
Package/Identity/Publisher
-
Package/Properties/PublisherDisplayName^5^
- Reassociate the project with the same Store product, or update the source manifest using those exact values.
- Rebuild the Store package with a higher package version.
- In Partner Center, select Start update, upload the rebuilt package, and submit it for certification.^6^
Do not change Package/Identity/Name or Package/Identity/Publisher merely to fix the friendly display name. Updates must remain in the same package family, which is derived from the package Name and Publisher.^7^
Therefore, a later package can carry the corrected PublisherDisplayName, provided Partner Center’s Product identity shows the correction and the package’s identity Name and Publisher remain exactly aligned with that existing product.
