Hi,

I had problem with my Microsoft OneDrive that belongs to the Microsoft Developer Program subscription.

The problem was that Microsoft put my OneDrive into read-only-mode because I did a security backup of my personal stuff and then they found it, and I do have to fix the problem with a help of one of the members of these community.

After that I did realize that some files that were stored into my OneDrive account still apear here in Microsoft Word, although I did clean all the files after download everything for my PC.

My Microsoft OneDrive Screenshot:

As mention before, after download everything from my OneDrive to my PC I did clean everything from my OneDrive even the recycle bin, so there's no files at all on my Microsoft OneDrive.

Can someone help me to fix this issue?

Thank you very much for your time.

Bye!

Hugo

    Hi,

As the forum’s AI pointed out, filenames appearing in Word do not by themselves prove that the files are still stored in OneDrive.

Your second screenshot shows an empty “My files” page in OneDrive. Your third screenshot shows Word’s Recent list (“Recentes”), which contains links to documents you previously opened, rather than a current inventory of your OneDrive files.

To remove the unwanted entries from Word:

1/ Go to File > Open > Recent.

2/ Right-click an unwanted entry and select Remove from list.

3/ Repeat for the remaining entries.

This removes the entries from the list without deleting your downloaded files. Make sure you choose Remove from list, rather than Delete file.

Microsoft documents these steps here: Customize the list of recently used files in Office apps.

I would start with this step before resetting or reconnecting OneDrive, since the screenshots do not establish a sync problem.

If an entry cannot be removed or reappears, please let me know whether clicking it opens a document or displays an error. If it opens, check File > Info for its location; that will help identify which copy Word is accessing.

Could you also confirm where the list in your first screenshot appears-for example, OneDrive Home-and whether OneDrive still displays a read-only warning? Removing entries from Word’s Recent list would not resolve a separate account restriction.

If you share another screenshot, please hide your name, email address, and any sensitive filenames or other personal information.

The OneDrive web view in the screenshot shows the library is empty, but the files shown in Word are most likely recent/local file entries, not proof that the files still exist in OneDrive.

The supported fixes from Microsoft content are:

    1. Check whether OneDrive is still running and signed in.
      • If the OneDrive sync app icon is missing from the notification area, restart OneDrive from Start and open it again.
    2. Reset the OneDrive sync app on Windows.
      • This can resolve sync issues and resets OneDrive settings.
      • Important: resetting OneDrive does not delete files, but it disconnects sync connections and then performs a full sync afterward.
      • Steps:
        1. Press Windows + R.
        2. Type wsreset.exe and select OK.
        3. Press Windows + R again.
        4. Run %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
        5. If Windows cannot find it, run C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
        6. If that also fails, run C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
    3. After the reset, start OneDrive again from Start.
      • Wait until OneDrive shows Up to date.
    4. If sync still looks incorrect, try unlinking and relinking the OneDrive account.
    5. If the account is in read-only mode because of licensing status, that is a different condition from normal sync issues.
      • For unlicensed OneDrive accounts, after 60 days the account can enter read-only mode, where files can be viewed and downloaded but not uploaded or edited.
      • After 93 days, it can move to archive mode, where files can no longer be viewed, downloaded, or edited.
    6. For a Microsoft 365 Developer Program / work account issue that remains server-side or read-only across web and desktop, contact the organization admin or Microsoft 365 business support.
