Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hello Jean Luckner Jean Luckner,
An Office product key can normally be redeemed only once. If this key was used on the old laptop, you should not try to redeem it again. Instead, reinstall Office through the Microsoft account originally linked to it.
Here are some suggestions you can try:
- Sign in to the Services & subscriptions page using every Microsoft account you may have used with Office 2013. If Office Home & Student 2013 appears, select the available install option.
- If the license is not listed, check whether Office originally came on a disc or with installation media. Older Office 2013 purchases may require both the original installer and product key.
If installation succeeds but activation says the license is already used on another device, please let me know whether Office was purchased separately as a retail copy or came preinstalled with the old laptop.
Please note that Office 2013 reached end of support in April 2023 and no longer receives security updates. If it cannot be reinstalled or reactivated, moving to a supported Office version would be the safer option.
