Try these steps in order:
- In Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click each USB Root Hub device, select Properties, open the Power Management tab, and clear Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
- Do the same for any Generic USB Hub entries.
- Restart the laptop and test the USB port again.
If the problem continues:
- Disconnect the USB hub and test the device directly in the laptop USB port.
- Unplug and reconnect the device.
- Use the cable that came with the device if available, because not all USB-C compatible cables support all features.
- If the device or hub has its own power supply, connect that power supply.
If the USB port still does not respond after the laptop has been idle or restarted:
- In Device Manager, right-click each USB Root Hub and Generic USB Hub, select Uninstall device, then restart the laptop so Windows reinstalls the USB drivers automatically.
- If the laptop is a Surface, shut it down from Start > Power > Shut down, wait 10 seconds, then press and hold the Power button for about 20 seconds until the Windows logo appears, disappears, and appears again. Then reconnect the USB device.
If the issue only happens through the hub but not when devices are connected directly, the hub or its power/cable path is the likely cause.
