Run the Windows 11 Bluetooth troubleshooter first, then disable Bluetooth power saving before attempting the file transfer again.^1^
1. Stabilize the Bluetooth connection
- Open Start → Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.
- Next to Bluetooth, select Run and allow the Get Help troubleshooter to apply its fixes.
- If Energy saver is enabled from the taskbar battery menu, turn it off temporarily.
- Open Device Manager → Bluetooth.
- Right-click the Bluetooth adapter—not the phone or other paired device—and select Properties → Power Management.
- Clear Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power, then select OK.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
services.msc, and select OK. - Right-click Bluetooth Support Service and select Restart.^1^
If the Power Management tab is absent, skip that setting.
2. Prepare Windows to receive the file
- Keep the sending device close to the laptop and place it in discoverable mode.
- Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the taskbar notification area.
- Select Receive a file.
- Leave that window open, then initiate the transfer from the sending device.
If the device no longer connects, open Settings → Bluetooth & devices, select its … menu, choose Remove device, and pair it again.^2^
3. Install the ASUS-specific Bluetooth driver
If disconnections continue, install the Windows 11 Bluetooth/Wireless driver for the laptop’s exact ASUS model rather than relying only on the generic Windows driver. An accepted case involving the same Windows 11 connect/disconnect behavior specifically recommends the laptop manufacturer’s matching driver.^3^
After downloading the driver from ASUS support:
- For an
.exepackage, run it and restart the laptop. - For extracted
.infand.sysfiles:- Open Device Manager → Bluetooth.
- Right-click the adapter and select Update driver → Browse my computer for drivers.
- Browse to the extracted driver folder, select Next, complete installation, and restart.^4^
If the connection becomes stable but transfers still fail
For an older device that cannot use Windows’ default 128-bit file-sharing encryption:
- Open Settings → Network & internet → Advanced network settings → Advanced sharing settings.
- Expand All networks.
- Under File sharing connections, select 40- or 56-bit encryption.^2^
This lowers file-sharing encryption compatibility, so use it only when the Bluetooth connection remains stable but the transfer cannot start or complete.
If Bluetooth disappears from Device Manager entirely after these steps, the next action is to obtain the latest adapter driver from ASUS or contact ASUS hardware support.^4^
