Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Try this end-to-end checklist:
- Check whether the invite is still valid The invitation must be accepted within 48 hours. If it is older than that, send a new one.
- Make sure the family member is not already in another family group If they are already in another Microsoft family group, joining will fail and can show errors during the join process. They must leave that other family group first, then accept the invitation again.
- Have the invitee open the invitation in a different browser or a private/incognito window This can help if the join page is failing because of a browser session or sign-in issue.
- Use a sharing link instead of relying on the email invite Go to the Microsoft 365 sharing page, select Share or Start sharing, then choose Create link / Copy link and send that link directly. The invitee should open the link, sign in with their Microsoft account, and then select Join now.
- Confirm the correct Microsoft account is being used The person accepting the invite should sign in with the Microsoft account that the invitation was intended for.
- If the invitation email was not received properly Check that the preferred email address was used and have them check the junk mail folder for a message with Microsoft 365 in the subject.
- After they join, verify the status on the subscription dashboard While the invitation is waiting to be accepted, the dashboard shows Pending invite. After they successfully select Join now and join the family group, the shared subscription benefits should become available.
Important details:
- Only the subscription account holder can share the subscription.
- Microsoft 365 Family, Premium, and Pro can be shared with up to five other people.
- Sharing only works while the invitee remains in the subscription owner’s family group.
