Open the Microsoft 365 sharing dashboard as the Premium subscription owner and select Start sharing for your husband’s existing family-group entry; if that option is unavailable or activation still fails, his active Personal subscription requires an account-level entitlement check before it is cancelled.
1. Share from the subscription dashboard
Being in the Microsoft Family group does not by itself activate Microsoft 365 benefits. The subscription owner must separately share those benefits.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns Microsoft 365 Premium.
- Open the Microsoft 365 sharing page.
- Verify:
- Start sharing or Share is available.
- At least one of the five sharing places remains.
- Your husband appears as an existing family member.
- Select Start sharing beside his entry.
Microsoft documents that the dashboard updates to offer Start sharing after the recipient has joined the owner’s family group. Premium benefits can be shared with up to five other people.[^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Troubleshoot sharing a Microsoft 365 subscription")
If only Pending invite appears, select your husband’s name and Resend invite. He must accept within 48 hours, using the exact Microsoft account that already belongs to your family group.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Share your Microsoft 365 subscription | Microsoft Support")
2. Check for a documented sharing conflict
Have your husband sign in to his own Services & subscriptions page:
https://account.microsoft.com/services
Check whether it shows:
- Microsoft 365 Personal only; or
- benefits shared by someone else.
Microsoft explicitly prevents sharing with someone who is already receiving the same full benefits from another shared subscription.[^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Troubleshoot sharing a Microsoft 365 subscription")
His membership in your family group rules out the separate “already in another family group” condition, provided he is accepting with that same Microsoft account.
3. If Personal is the only competing entitlement
Microsoft’s Premium documentation does not explicitly state that an active Personal subscription blocks a Premium share. However, closely matching Microsoft 365 Family cases report that the Personal entitlement had to expire before shared benefits appeared.^3^
Before cancelling paid time, contact Microsoft Support to confirm whether his Personal entitlement is blocking the Premium share on this specific account. If support confirms it:
- On his Services & subscriptions page, select Manage beside Microsoft 365 Personal.
- Select Cancel subscription or Turn off recurring billing.
- If the page displays Turn on recurring billing, the subscription is already scheduled to expire; it remains active until the displayed paid-through date.[^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Cancel a Microsoft 365 subscription | Microsoft Support")
- After its status becomes Expired, return to the owner’s sharing page and select Start sharing for him. If a new invitation is generated, he should accept it with the same Microsoft account.
Turning off recurring billing does not terminate Personal immediately. Matching Family cases indicate that the shared entitlement may not appear until the paid term ends.^5^
If Personal was purchased through Apple, Google, Amazon, or another retailer, cancellation and billing must be handled by that seller.[^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Cancel a Microsoft 365 subscription | Microsoft Support")
Cancelling can temporarily reduce his storage allowance after Personal expires, so check his OneDrive usage before creating any gap between expiration and successful Premium sharing.[^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Cancel a Microsoft 365 subscription | Microsoft Support")
If the dashboard still omits him
Use Contact Support from Microsoft’s subscription-sharing FAQ and provide:
- Both accounts’ Services & subscriptions screenshots, with personal information hidden.
- The Premium owner’s sharing dashboard.
- The exact invitation error.
- Confirmation that he is already in the owner’s family group.
- His Personal subscription’s status and paid-through date.
Microsoft Support can determine whether an account entitlement is preventing the share.[^6^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft 365 subscription sharing FAQs")
Premium’s subscription benefits are shareable, but its AI and exclusive Copilot features remain available only to the subscription owner.^7^
