Azure AI Search S1: docs say 1000 fields per index, but Service Statistics API shows 3000

The Azure AI Search service limits documentation lists the maximum simple fields per index as 1000 for the S1 tier.

When I call the Get Service Statistics REST API (version 2024-07-01) on an S1 service, the limits section returns:

maxFieldsPerIndex: 3000

maxFieldNestingDepthPerIndex: 10

maxComplexCollectionFieldsPerIndex: 40

maxComplexObjectsInCollectionsPerDocument: 3000

Questions:

Which value is the real enforced limit on S1: 1000 or 3000?

Does 3000 include sub-fields of complex types, while 1000 counts only simple top-level fields?

If they measure different things, can the docs be clarified?

We are planning our index schema and need to know which limit to follow.
