    Hi, Roger Allum

Thank you for explaining. One correction to the AI's answer: the newer Photos app does support slideshows, so you don’t necessarily need another app.

If you’re viewing the pictures in Photos, try starting the slideshow from inside the app:

Open Start, type Photos, and open it.

Open your picture folder from the left side. If it isn’t listed, select Gallery, then Add folder to add it.

Open one picture and press F5 to start the slideshow. Try this rather than selecting all the files in File Explorer.

If it still repeats the same 30 pictures, my next suggestion is to repair Photos. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Microsoft Photos, select the three dots beside it, then Advanced options > Repair, if available. Afterward, reopen Photos and test again. Repair keeps the app’s data.

If it still happens, are you watching the pictures in a full-screen window, or as your desktop background?

Windows 11 does not support a full-screen photo slideshow with settings to show all pictures in random order or control the speed the way older versions did. The built-in Photos app in Windows 11 no longer includes those classic slideshow options.

    Two simple options are supported:

    1. Use desktop background slideshow
    • Open Settings > Personalization > Background.
    • Choose Slideshow.
    • Select the folder that contains the 200 pictures.
    • Turn on Shuffle if wanted.
    • Choose the time interval.

This works for the desktop background, not for a full-screen photo viewer.

    1. Make sure Windows is using the correct folder
    • In Settings > Personalization > Background > Slideshow, select the exact folder in My Pictures that contains all 200 images.
    • If pictures are spread across different folders, only the selected folder will be used.

If the goal is a full-screen slideshow and Windows keeps looping only a smaller set, that feature is limited in Windows 11 Photos. A practical workaround is to use Photos Legacy or another slideshow app.
