LRC freezes when downloading pictures with current windows. Set up a Windows test account and now it works. Need to transfer old information to new test account. How too?

Since Lightroom Classic works in the new Windows account, the old profile is likely corrupted. The supported fix is to keep using the new account and manually copy data from the old profile.

    1. Sign in to the new account.
    2. Open File Explorer.
    3. Go to C:\Users\<Old_Username>.
    4. Copy the folders and files needed from the old profile.
    5. Go to C:\Users\<New_Username>.
    6. Paste the copied files into the matching folders in the new profile.

    Typical folders to copy:

    • Documents
    • Pictures
    • Videos
    • Music
    • Desktop
    • Downloads
    • Any custom folders created under the old profile

    Important:

    • Do not change File Explorer settings to show hidden files and folders or protected operating system files.
    • Some apps may need to be reconfigured or reinstalled in the new account.
    • Email messages in desktop mail apps must be imported separately.
    • If Microsoft Store apps were used before, sign in to those apps again in the new account.
    • If the new account was created as a local account, change it to a Microsoft account after the file copy.
    • Restart the PC after the copy, then sign in to the new account and verify the files are available.

Programs themselves are not transferred by copying the profile folders. Personal files and standard user folders can be moved this way.

    Hi Kurt Sparenberg,

It’s a good sign that Lightroom Classic works normally in the new Windows account, as this suggests the issue is limited to the original user profile.

Have you followed the steps in the AI Answer to copy your personal files to the new account? If so, how did it go and did you notice any errors or missing files afterward?

Before removing the old account, please also check whether you need to preserve only the original photos or your Lightroom edits, collections, ratings, keywords and custom presets as well. If you need your previous Lightroom work, open Lightroom Classic in the old account and check the catalog location under Edit > Catalog Settings > General. Close Lightroom Classic, then back up the folder containing the .lrcat catalog file. In the new account, you can open that catalog through File > Open Catalog.

If any photo folders appear missing, use the Folders panel in Lightroom Classic to reconnect them to their current location rather than importing the photos again. I would avoid copying the entire AppData folder, since that could carry the problematic account-specific settings into the new profile.

Please keep the old account and a separate backup for now. Once the correct catalog opens, your previous edits and collections are present, and a small test import works without freezing, you can consider using the new account permanently.
