A specific functionality or enhancement provided by Windows Copilot
The current behavior matches the documented rollout state.
Microsoft documented that a Windows 11 update would add an option to remap the Copilot key to Right Ctrl or Context menu on supported devices, but configuration options can still vary by device manufacturer, firmware, hardware design, account type, installed apps, and organization settings.
If the current Customize Copilot key on keyboard dropdown only shows Search, Copilot, or Open an app/Custom, that means the Right Ctrl remap option is not currently available on that device configuration.
Supported places to check are:
- Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Keyboard
- On some newer Windows configurations: Settings > Personalization > Text input > Customize Copilot key on keyboard
- If the device manufacturer provides its own Copilot key setting, use either the Windows setting or the device setting, not both.
For Surface devices that support keyboard customization, the Surface app can expose keyboard customization options. If Customize keyboard is missing on a supported Surface model, install the latest Surface updates and update the Surface app to version 76.2010.145.0 or later.
Important limitation: if the key is remapped to Right Ctrl, Microsoft notes that shortcuts using RCtrl+Win and RCtrl+Shift will not work normally; Left Ctrl is recommended for those combinations.
