A blank test page usually means the issue is either with the printer itself or the Windows print path.
Try these steps in order:
- Power cycle the printer
- Turn the printer off.
- Unplug it for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
- Check the printer for a hardware error
- If the printer shows "Printer in error state", check for:
- low paper or ink
- an open cover
- a paper jam
- If the printer shows "Printer in error state", check for:
- Check the connection
- USB printer: make sure the USB cable is firmly connected to both the printer and the PC.
- Wireless printer:
- make sure wireless is turned on at the printer
- run the printer’s wireless connectivity test if the printer supports it
- make sure the PC is on the same Wi‑Fi network as the printer, especially if there are extenders or multiple SSIDs
- Remove and reinstall the printer in Windows 11
- Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer.
- Select Remove, then confirm with Yes.
- Go back to Printers & scanners.
- Make sure the printer is on and connected.
- Select Add device or Refresh.
- If the printer appears, select Add device.
- If it does not appear, select Add manually.
- Print a test page after reinstalling
- If the printer installs but still prints blank, check the printer manufacturer’s site for troubleshooting information or updated drivers.
- Install the latest printer driver
- Windows guidance recommends installing the latest driver if reinstalling does not fix the issue.
- Clear and reset the print spooler
- Warning: this clears queued print jobs.
- In the taskbar search box, type services and open Services.
- On the Standards tab, double-click Print Spooler.
- Select Stop > OK.
- In the taskbar search box, enter %WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers and open that folder.
- Delete all files in the folder.
- Open Services again.
- Double-click Print Spooler.
- Select Start.
- Set Startup Type to Automatic.
- Select OK.
If the printer still produces a blank test page after these steps, the context only confirms that there may be a problem with the printer itself.
