Last night my wifi was working just fine but today it’s not working at all. FYI- the wifi is working perfectly on all the devices in the home just not my laptop. When I tried giving out my mobile hotspot and then it started working but it is just not working with my home wifi. I tried all the troubleshooting methods restarting, network connectivity, router restart and reset but no luck. This is really frustrating!

    Hi Aaditya Sharma,

Thanks for your post. I’m happy to help look into this with you. Have you already tried the Q&A Assist suggestions? In addition, please try the steps below:

Step 1 – Forget and re‑add the home Wi‑Fi profile

A corrupted Wi‑Fi profile can cause this exact behavior.

    1. Open Settings > “Network & Internet” > “Wi‑Fi”
    2. Select “Manage known networks”
    3. Click your home Wi‑Fi > “Forget”
    4. Restart the laptop, then reconnect to the Wi‑Fi and re‑enter the password

Step 2 – Check IPv4 DNS is not misconfigured

Incorrect DNS settings can block internet access while still showing “Connected”.

    1. Open Settings > “Network & Internet” > “Advanced network settings”
    2. Select “More network adapter options”
    3. Right‑click Wi‑Fi > “Properties”
    4. Open “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”
    5. Make sure “Obtain DNS server address automatically” is selected

    Step 3 – Temporarily disable IPv6

Some home routers have IPv6 compatibility issues with Windows 11.

    1. Go back to Wi‑Fi Properties
    2. Uncheck “Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)”
    3. Click OK and reconnect to Wi‑Fi

If this fixes it, you can leave IPv6 disabled or re‑enable it later after a router firmware update.

Step 4 – Verify system date & time

Incorrect system time can break secure internet connections.

    1. Open Settings > “Time & language” > “Date & time”
    2. Turn on “Set time automatically” and “Set time zone automatically”
    3. Click “Sync now”, then reconnect Wi‑Fi

All these "solutions" did nothing to my windows10 laptop. I even tried using chatgpt pro, for several hours. Guiding me through several netsh cmd commands and other ipconfig commands. Nothing man/woman. I went and tried looking on the device managemer to see if the wlan driver/"device thingy inside my laptop" isn't broken by any chance or if it needed to update. And no! I also tried forgetting my wifi on my laptop, and then rebooting the router. And didn't even work.

This all started while casually playing on Shadow PC.(A cloud gaming PC providor) I've been playing with it for weeks, and no issues. Same for other providors. I never had problems with them. I also doubt that it's Shadows fault.

According to chatgpt everything regarding netsh and ipconfig looked good. Apart from the fact when I ping ips. Like for example ping google.com or ping [my own IP], I'd get Gesture Failure as an answer.

Follow these steps on the Windows 11 laptop that shows “No Internet” even though Wi‑Fi is connected and other devices work:

    1. Turn Wi‑Fi off and back on
      • Select the Network icon on the right side of the taskbar.
      • Turn Wi‑Fi off, wait 10–15 seconds, then turn it on again and reconnect to your home network.
    2. Renew the IP configuration
      • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
      • Run these commands one by one, pressing Enter after each:
             ipconfig /release
             ipconfig /renew

      • When done, test the connection again.
    3. Flush the DNS cache
      • In the same elevated Command Prompt, run:
             ipconfig /flushdns

      • Try browsing again.
    4. Check proxy settings
      • Open Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
      • Under Manual proxy setup, turn off any manual proxy options.
    5. Check the IP address
      • Find the laptop’s IP address (see Find your IP address in the linked article section).
      • If it looks like 169.254.x.x, Windows is not getting an address from the router.
        • In that case, sign in to the router’s admin page and make sure DHCP is enabled (see the router’s documentation).
        • After enabling or confirming DHCP, wait a few seconds and check if the Wi‑Fi status changes from No Internet to connected.
    6. Run the built‑in Network troubleshooter
      • On Windows 11, open Get Help and run the Network and Internet troubleshooter from the article link.
      • Follow the on‑screen steps and apply any fixes it suggests.

If the hotspot works but the home Wi‑Fi does not, these steps focus on fixing the laptop’s IP/DNS configuration and any proxy settings that can block Internet access while still showing as connected to Wi‑Fi.

    Hi ,

I'm Dyari. Thanks for reaching out. I will be happy to assist you in this regard.

Have you installed any software or update so far?

Most of the time, turning off your computer (not restarting) and turning it on again will fix the issue. If the problem persists after trying all the steps provided by the Q&A assist, I will provide you with the steps to uninstall and reinstall the network driver.

    Hi!!

Since your home Wi-Fi works normally on all other devices, but your laptop works fine with a mobile hotspot, the problem is most likely specific to the laptop’s Wi-Fi configuration, adapter, DHCP, DNS, or network profile.

I recently covered this exact type of issue in detail, including how to check the IP address, default gateway, DNS, and run a few diagnostic tests:

    fix wifi connected no internet

The step-by-step diagnostics in the article should help you identify exactly where the connection is

    failing.
