How to fix infinite loading screen when attempting sign in?

For the past couple years I have been unable to access my account to change my display name, check subscriptions, or to look at any account settings. I am still able to login to Xbox and other Microsoft services, but when I try to login on the website to access my account, there is an infinite loading screen that continuously swaps between two URLs. I have gone through multiple support tickets with no luck and have no idea what to do.

If you're experiencing an infinite loading screen when trying to sign in to your Microsoft account on the website, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Clear Browser Cache: Clearing your browser's cache can often resolve loading issues. For Microsoft Edge, go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data. For Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data.
    2. Use InPrivate or Incognito Mode: Try signing in using an InPrivate window in Edge or Incognito mode in Chrome. This can help bypass any cached data that might be causing the issue.
    3. Check Cookie Settings: Ensure that your browser is set to allow cookies, as this is necessary for signing in to Microsoft accounts.
    4. Try a Different Browser: If the issue persists, try accessing your account using a different web browser to see if the problem is specific to the one you are currently using.
    5. Sign Out of All Accounts: Sometimes, being signed into multiple Microsoft accounts can cause conflicts. Sign out of all accounts and then try signing in again.
    6. Check Account Status: Make sure that there are no issues with your Microsoft account itself, such as security alerts or restrictions that might prevent you from accessing certain features.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to contact Microsoft support for further assistance.

    Hi Daniel Sandy,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thanks for explaining what you’re running into, this type of behavior is usually related to saved browser sign‑in data or cached redirects, rather than an issue with the account itself.

In addition to Q&A Assist's answer, here are some possible checking steps that you can try to resolve the looping sign‑in screen:

    1 - Bypass cached data

    • Open the sign‑in page in Edge.
    • Press F12 to open Developer Tools.
    • Go to the Network tab, check Disable cache, then refresh the page once.

    2 - Remove only Microsoft sign‑in cookies

    • In Edge, open Settings > Cookies and site permissions > See all cookies and site data.
    • Remove data for: account.microsoft.com, login.live.com and login.microsoftonline.com
    • Restart Edge and try signing in again.

3 - Test in an InPrivate window

    • Open an InPrivate window and sign in.
    • If this works, it confirms stored browser data or extensions are interfering.
    • Temporarily disable extensions (especially ad/privacy blockers).
    • Restart Edge and test sign‑in.

    4 - Check Edge automatic sign‑in

    • Go to Edge Settings > Profiles > Profile preferences.
    • Turn off Automatic sign‑in, then restart Edge and try again.

You can also create a new Edge profile or test with another browser to rule out profile corruption.
