Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hello Mike Rawlins,
Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Q&A forum
I understand you want to move from Microsoft 365 Family to Personal without losing any of your data.
The good news is that your files, emails, OneDrive data, and Office apps are all tied to your Microsoft account, not the subscription type, so switching plans will not delete anything.
To switch safely:
- Let the Family subscription expires or ask the Family organizer to remove you from the shared plan. Once removed, your account simply goes into a grace period (no data is deleted).
- Purchase a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription using the same Microsoft account you are currently using. As soon as you activate the new plan, all your data and settings continue normally.
- Check your OneDrive storage after leaving the Family plan. Family plan gives you more storage than Personal. If you're over the Personal limit (1 TB), OneDrive will enter “read‑only” mode, but no files are deleted; you’ll just need to reduce storage to be under the limit.
