Microsoft Pop Up "Don't Lose Your Benefits"

When I open Word, I get a persistent Microsoft popup “Don’t Lose Your Benefits.” (There’s a billing issue...) I can close the popup and continue using Word, but it pops up again when I reopen the program. (Also with Powerpoint & OneNote)

Here’s what happened: I switched credit cards on the same day my Microsoft 365 subscription payment was due, so their first attempt to charge the old card failed. Within two hours on the same day, I updated my payment information and the charge went through successfully. Despite that, I’m still getting the “Don’t Lose Your Benefits” message.

I’ve already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Signing out and back into my Microsoft account
  2. Refreshing/repairing licenses within Word
  3. Updating Microsoft 365 and Office

Has anyone else seen this, or know how to get rid of the popup?

Hi,

The popup is tied to cached billing alerts in your Office apps. Even after payment succeeds, the local license sometimes needs a manual refresh to clear the warning.

Here’s what you can try to fix it:

Verify subscription status

Sign in at https://account.microsoft.com/services .

Confirm your Microsoft 365 subscription shows as active.

Refresh Office activation

Open Word and go to File > Account > Sign out, then sign back in with the correct Microsoft account.

Click Update License if available.

Clear cached credentials

Close all Office apps.

Open Windows Settings > Accounts > Access work or school and disconnect any old accounts.

Restart your PC and sign back in.

Repair Office

Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft 365 > Modify > Quick Repair.

If Quick Repair doesn’t help, try Online Repair.

Let me know how it goes, Happy to help!

It sounds like you're experiencing a common issue related to billing and subscription status in Microsoft 365. Since you've already updated your payment information and the charge was successful, the persistent popup might be due to a delay in the system recognizing the updated billing status.

Here are a few additional steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check Subscription Status: Ensure that your subscription is active by logging into the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and checking the billing section.
    2. Reactivate Subscription: If your subscription shows as inactive, you might need to reactivate it.
    3. Clear Cache: Sometimes, clearing the cache of the Office applications can help. You can do this by going to the settings of the application and looking for options to clear cache or reset settings.
    4. Uninstall and Reinstall Office: If the problem persists, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling Microsoft 365 apps to reset any potential issues with the installation.
    5. Contact Support: If none of the above steps work, contacting Microsoft support directly may provide you with a solution tailored to your specific situation.

These steps should help you address the popup issue.
