Why is the screen glitched in Minecraft?

In Minecraft Java on my Surface Pro 11 with X Elite:

  • The screen is black on the main menu panorama, except for the buttons and text
  • All the menus have a weird, fuzzy version of the panorama
  • In a world, the screen is completely black except for all the elements (F3, chat, HUD, etc.)
  • The escape menu is extremely blurry and miscolored

All of this combined makes Minecraft unplayable

I'm playing with the default setting and Vanilla Minecraft (No Mods)

I've made sure that the graphics card has no updates and troubleshooted as much as I can
It worked earlier before the last graphics update. I think that it might be a bug in the GPU when it got a Graphics Driver Update. Of course I can't go back to the previous driver versions, so I can't test it or play minecraft until it's fixed.20250902_171535

Same issue on my Surface Pro 11, Adreno driver 31.0.121.1.

Did you find a fix? Disabling/enabling HDR did not work for me.

Edit: Reverting the GPU driver also didn't help. However, playing around with HDR and refresh rate settings helped, surprisingly. No more glitches at the moment, even with HDR enabled.

Hi, I've found a solution. Have you tried to disable HDR (via Settings or just press Win + Alt + B with GameBar). I have an exactly same machine and driver version as yours, and disabling HDR makes everything work!

Hello XBHS. It looks like the black screen in Minecraft on your Surface pro is probably because of the recent driver update. The root cuse is a driver-level incompatibility between Minecraft and the Snapdragon X Elite. Many users are saying that after the latest graphics update, the game goes black. In this case, I'm pretty sure you are using the Minecraft from the Microsoft Store. Since you're just using regular Minecraft with the normal settings, and it was fine before, the driver is likely what's causing the problem.

First thing to try is to run the Surface Diagnostic toolkit to see if there are any irregularities in the device or missing updates or lacking drivers. Second, try to reset the Minecraft >right click>app settings> click terminate > then run repair or reset or reinstall. Then try each if Minecraft can launch without the black screen.

Here is a Minecraft specific troubleshooting steps to follow in the link below: https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4409137348877-Minecraft-Java-Edition-Game-Crashes-and-Performance-Issues-FAQ

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Rez
