We have a Copilot Studio App published to MS Teams. When we publish a new version, Update button appears for the app in Teams, but when we try to update the app it gives "Something went wrong error" always.

    Hi, AbhijeetThakurmsft-3569

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Community.

I am sincerely grateful to you for the patience with which we are considering this issue

Based on common troubleshooting for "Something went wrong" errors when updating Copilot Studio apps (formerly Power Virtual Agents bots) in Microsoft Teams, here are steps to resolve the issue. These draw from Microsoft documentation, community forums, and user-reported workarounds as of July 2025. Try them in order, starting with the simplest.

    First, check Permissions and Policies:

Teams admin settings or organizational policies might block app updates, especially for custom or Copilot Studio-published apps.

    Steps:

    • Contact your Teams or Microsoft 365 admin to verify:
      • App permissions allow updates for bots/Copilot agents (in the Teams admin center under Teams apps > Permission policies).
        • No restrictions on third-party or custom apps.
          • Your account has the necessary licenses (e.g., Microsoft 365 Copilot or Power Virtual Agents).
    • In Copilot Studio, confirm the app is published correctly: Go to Channels > Microsoft Teams and ensure the configuration is active without errors.
    • If the app was previously removed or modified, recreate the Teams tab or app integration in a fresh channel.

You can reference to: "Something went wrong" When adding copilot on MS Teams through Copilot Studio

Next, Validate app configuration in Copilot Studio:

Issues with the app manifest or publishing process can trigger this error.

    • Steps:
      • In Copilot Studio, republish the agent and check for any warnings in the publishing logs.
        • Ensure the app's manifest file (generated during publishing) is up-to-date—download it from Copilot Studio and review for inconsistencies.
          • Test by sharing the app's link anew in Teams and attempting a fresh install/update.
          • If sharing the link itself fails with "Something went wrong," it could indicate a service-side issue.

Last, you can clear Teams cache manually:

    • Close Teams.
    • Delete contents of %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams (Windows) or ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams (macOS).
    • Restart Teams.
    • Sign Out and In: Log out of Teams and Copilot Studio, then log back in.
    • Check for Outages: Visit the Microsoft 365 admin center's Service health page or use Downdetector for Copilot/Teams to rule out widespread issues.
    • Test on Another Device/User: Try updating from a different account or device to isolate if it's user-specific.

If the error persists after these steps, it's likely an internal service issue. Microsoft recommends contacting support via the Microsoft 365 admin center (Support > New service request) or Copilot Studio help, providing details like error session ID (if shown), your environment, and publish date. They can investigate backend logs.

Thank you for your kindness and understanding. If you need anything else, please feel free to contact me.
