No repair is needed if Windows Update still reports “You’re up to date” and updates complete successfully; the missing sentence is informational, not an error indicator.
The screenshot shows that the Microsoft Defender Security Intelligence update completed and displays no failure or pending restart. The omitted sentence concerns eligible updates that Windows can combine with a later cumulative update to reduce restarts. Such text may appear only when Windows has applicable updates to describe.
Optional non-security preview fixes normally become part of a subsequent monthly cumulative security update. Monthly security updates are cumulative and include non-security content from the previous preview release.^1^
What to check
- Open Start → Settings → Windows Update → Update history.
- Check Quality Updates, Driver Updates, and Other Updates.
- If everything is listed as Successfully installed, no action is required.
- To control whether Windows offers additional updates earlier, return to Settings → Windows Update:
- Turn Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available on to receive eligible non-security and feature updates earlier.
- Leave it off to receive regular security updates normally and wait longer for additional updates.^2^
The toggle does not stop regular security updates. Some restart-requiring updates may also be grouped with the next cumulative update to reduce the number of restarts.
Only troubleshoot if updates actually fail
If Update history shows Failed to install, note the update’s KB number and error code. Then run:
Start → Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Windows Update → Run
Microsoft recommends the Windows Update troubleshooter for installation problems; repair procedures such as clearing the update cache or running DISM/SFC are intended for actual update failures, not a missing informational sentence.^3^
