When I try to join a Teams invitation from a different organisation it keeps being overridden by the one I am no longer a guest for. This old organisation keeps making me sign in

    Do you use Microsoft Teams?

If so, on the app, you must log into the user that was invited as the guest. For example, if they invited your ******@outlook.com, make sure you sign into ******@outlook.com

Then go to Settings > Accounts and orgs, find the old organization listed, use the leave button to leave the organization.

    Hi Christine,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, it is very likely that your account is still linked to your previous organization.

To leave your previous organization as a Guest user, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Go to My Account

    • If you are using a Work or School account, go to My Account and sign in.
    • If you are using a Personal account or signing in with an email one-time passcode, you may need to use the My Account URL that includes the tenant name or tenant ID of the organization. For example:

    [https://myaccount.microsoft.com?tenantId=contoso.onmicrosoft.com] or

In some cases, you may need to open this URL in an InPrivate/Private browsing window.

    Step 2: Leave the organization

    1/ Open the Organizations page

2/ Under Other organizations you collaborate with (or Organizations if you do not have a Home organization), find the organization you want to leave, and then select Leave.

Screenshot showing Leave organization option in the user interface.

3/ When prompted for confirmation, select Leave again.

4/ you receive a message stating that you cannot leave the organization yourself, you will need to contact the organization's administrator or privacy contact and ask them to remove your Guest account from the organization.

Screenshot showing the message when you need permission to leave an organization.

Note: If you do not see the Leave option, it may mean that the previous organization does not allow users to leave the tenant themselves. In this case, you will need to contact the administrator of that tenant and ask them to remove your Guest account from the organization.

To leave an organization where the account is a guest:

    1. Open the My Account page.
      • Work or school account: https://myaccount.microsoft.com
      • Personal account or email one-time passcode: use a tenant-specific My Account URL. A private browser session might be needed.
    2. Select Organizations in the left pane, or Manage organizations.
    3. Under Other organizations you collaborate with, find the old organization and select Leave.
    4. Confirm by selecting Leave again.

    Important points:

    • The Home organization cannot be left by the user. Only an administrator can remove that account.
    • If Leave is missing or a message says permission is required, that external organization has disabled self-service leaving, or the guest account is disabled. In that case, the organization’s admin or privacy contact must remove the guest account.
    • Leaving a team in Teams is not the same as leaving the organization. Leaving the team does not remove the guest account from the organization directory.
    • If the old organization is causing Teams sign-in conflicts, managing and leaving it from My Account or from Teams View account > Organizations is the supported path.
    • Leaving an organization deletes associated data for that organization. If it is done by mistake, the organization admin would need to invite the account again.
