Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
The Your accounts page is one screen too early—select Add account, enter the email address, and then Continue will appear.
Add the IMAP or POP account
- Open New Outlook.
- Select Settings (the gear icon).
- Go to Accounts → Your accounts.
- Select Add account.
- Enter the full email address for the account.
- Select Continue. Microsoft’s documented sequence places this button after the email-address field, not on the Your accounts list itself.^1^
- If Outlook cannot detect the settings automatically, choose the manual or advanced setup option and select IMAP or POP. New Outlook supports other accounts connecting through either protocol.^2^
- Enter the incoming and outgoing server names, ports, encryption type, username, and password supplied by your email provider.
If the email address has been entered but the button is not visible, press Tab until Continue receives focus, then press Enter. That is also Microsoft’s documented keyboard sequence.^1^
For manual configuration, obtain the exact incoming server, outgoing SMTP server, ports, and SSL/encryption settings from the email provider; these values vary by provider.^3^
A separate previous chat cannot be displayed from this conversation, but the missing step in the instructions was selecting Add account before looking for Continue.
