My PC has suddenly bemove very slow to start-up. Have checked the obvious, start-up apps etc, but was wondering if installing any of the 'Optional Updates' (see pic attached) would help?

When you start your PC, you should see the PC manufacturers logo screen, then the spinning dots to indicate Windows is starting, then the login screen and after you login the Desktop, if your PC is now slow to startup, at what point in that startup process does it freeze before it starts up and how long is it taking for your PC to start?

Yes—installing Windows updates and optional driver updates can help if the slow startup is caused by a driver or non-critical update that improves performance or compatibility.

For Windows 11, the recommended order is:

    1. Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
    2. Install any available regular updates with Download & install.
    3. Then go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.
    4. If optional updates are available, select them and choose Download & install.

Since startup apps were already checked, the next useful checks are:

    1. Run a malware scan
      • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
      • Select Quick scan.
    2. Check storage space and clean temporary files
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Storage.
      • Turn on Storage Sense.
      • Select Configure Storage Sense or run it now, then Clean now.
    3. Review Task Manager for heavy processes
      • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
      • On Processes, close apps not in use.
      • Review Performance and Startup apps for anything using high resources.
    4. Set visual effects for performance
      • Open Start, type Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows, and open it.
      • On Visual Effects, select Adjust for best performance.
    5. Restart and test with only essential apps open
      • Select Start > Power > Restart.

If the slowdown started very recently after an update, one Microsoft Q&A accepted answer notes this can be a compatibility issue with drivers and a recent update. In that case, System Restore back to a point when startup was normal is one option, or waiting for a newer update may help.
