Training: Instruction to develop new skills.
Ask your university’s Microsoft 365/Azure administrator to confirm that its tenant and email domain are registered and verified as an academic institution; if they are, submit an Azure subscription-management support request for a manual eligibility review.
1. Confirm that all eligibility conditions are met
Azure for Students requires you to:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be a full-time student at an accredited, degree-granting two- or four-year institution.
- Verify your status through your institution’s email address.
- Have no more than one Azure for Students subscription per eligible customer.
The offer provides $100 credit for 12 months and does not require a credit card.^1^ ^2^
Being a second-year student and owning an active university mailbox does not by itself confirm that Microsoft’s automated system recognizes the university tenant or email domain. The displayed message does not reveal which eligibility check failed.
2. Contact the university administrator
Ask your university IT department or Microsoft 365 administrator to confirm:
- The university’s Microsoft tenant is registered and verified as an academic institution.
- Your university account is active and identifies you as a current student.
- Your exact email domain is included in the institution’s verified academic configuration.
- Your name and student information match the university’s records.
For this same error after university-email verification, the accepted Microsoft Q&A resolution directs the student to have the school administrator verify the institution’s academic registration. If that registration is correct, the administrator should open a Microsoft support ticket for backend investigation.^3^
3. Check for a previous redemption
Before escalating, determine whether you previously activated Azure for Students under:
- Another personal Microsoft account.
- A different university address.
- The same address represented as both a personal Microsoft account and a work/school account.
The offer is limited to one subscription per eligible customer.^2^ If there might be an earlier redemption, mention every account identity you may have used in the support request, but do not post those addresses publicly.
4. Request a manual eligibility review
If the university confirms that its academic registration is valid:
- Sign in to the Azure portal with the account used for the student application.
- Open Help + support.
- Select Create a support request or New support request.
- Choose a Billing/Subscription Management issue rather than a technical issue.
- State that Azure for Students activation fails before a subscription is created.
- Request checks for:
- Academic-domain and tenant recognition.
- A previous Azure for Students redemption associated with another Microsoft identity.
- A verification record left by the failed registration.
- Attach a screenshot of the error and include the date/time and session or correlation ID, if shown.
Azure provides unlimited subscription-management support; a paid technical support plan is not required for this category.^4^
If the portal will not let you create a case because no subscription exists, use Microsoft’s documented no-subscription support capability. The Azure CLI supports creating Billing, Subscription Management, and Technical tickets without a subscription.^5^ Alternatively, ask the university administrator to submit the case from the verified institutional tenant, as recommended in the matching Q&A resolution.
Do not switch to Pay-As-You-Go solely to obtain support. That is a separate paid subscription and does not resolve Azure for Students eligibility.
