An Azure native disaster recovery service. Previously known as Microsoft Azure Hyper-V Recovery Manager.
For Hyper-V VM migration to Azure, install the Azure Site Recovery provider on each Hyper-V host or cluster node, then register it with the Recovery Services vault by using the registration key downloaded from the portal. The supported install flow is:
- In the Azure Migrate project, go to Execute > Migration > Start execution.
- On Specify intent, choose Servers or virtual machines (VMs) and Azure VM.
- Under How will you select workloads, choose From replication provider (Hyper-V).
- In Prepare Hyper-V host servers, download the Hyper-V replication provider and the registration key.
- Copy both files to each Hyper-V host.
- Run AzureSiteRecoveryProvider.exe on each host and complete registration with the key.
For the specific error shown, the accepted Microsoft Q&A guidance is:
- Run the installer as a true local administrator.
- Temporarily disable antivirus.
- Check that no system services are stuck.
- If there was a previous failed install, clean up leftover files or registry entries before retrying.
- Review the install logs for the exact failure.
If using command-line installation, the provider install log is written to:
%Programdata%\ASRLogs\DRASetupWizard.log
Command-based install and registration steps:
AzureSiteRecoveryProvider.exe /q /x:.\Temp\Extracted
cd .\Temp\Extracted
.\setupdr.exe /i
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Provider\DRConfigurator.exe" /r /Credentials <key file path>
If the host uses a proxy, registration also supports /proxyaddress and /proxyport parameters.
If the host is part of a Hyper-V cluster, install the provider on all cluster nodes.
