Cannot access tenant to unlink my personal email

Hello, I need help resolving an account conflict between my personal Microsoft account and my former employer’s Microsoft tenant.

My personal Gmail #1 email account was mistakenly added to the .org organizational tenant. Because of this:

• I am paying twice for Microsoft 365 every year (May under my gmail #2 @gmail.com, and September under the .org ‑linked Gmail #1 account).

• I cannot sign into the new Copilot, because my Gmail is still treated as a work account.

• My Copilot Legacy memory and chat history are stuck on the ProsperWaco‑linked identity.

I need three things:

  1. Remove my Gmail from the org tenant so it becomes a normal personal Microsoft account again.
  2. Fix the duplicate Microsoft 365 billing (transfer or cancel the September subscription).
  3. Restore my Copilot Legacy memory once my Gmail is unbound from the org tenant.

I no longer have access to .org, so even when I enter my personal Gmail to log into Microsoft 365 (which I personally pay for every September) I cannot access the.org to receive the confirmation code to complete the login process and actually manage the account. Please escalate this to the team that handles tenant/account unbinding.

Thank you.

    Hello TiffineyG

Thank you for explaining the situation.

I understand that you no longer have access to your former organization, while your personal Gmail address is still associated with that organization's Microsoft tenant. You also need help with the duplicate Microsoft 365 subscription and the Copilot data associated with that identity.

Unfortunately, these are account and tenant-level issues that cannot be directly changed from the Microsoft Q&A community. Community members do not have access to Microsoft account records, tenant configuration, subscriptions, billing information, or the backend systems required to unlink an identity.

Since you can no longer access the former organization's tenant, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support directly and explaining that you need assistance with an account that remains associated with a former organization's tenant and that you no longer have access to that organization. Here is how to contact support:

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators and contributors, including external Microsoft employees, are not allowed to directly interfere with Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited solely to providing technical guidance on reported incidents, requests, or ideas.

    1. Open a website link - Contact - Microsoft Support
    2. In the box below "We're here to help", type Microsoft 365, click "Get Help", and then click "Contact Support" below.
    3. In this section, you will need to sign in to your Microsoft account.
    4. Select "Microsoft 365 and Office" under Products & Services, select "Technical Support" as the category, and click to confirm
    5. You can select " Chat with a support agent in your web browser " to access the chat window.

You should also mention the duplicate Microsoft 365 charges so that Support can investigate the subscriptions associated with the affected accounts.

For the Copilot Legacy history/memory, I would avoid promising that it can be transferred or restored to another identity. Once the account/tenant issue has been investigated, Microsoft Support can advise what options, if any, are available for that data.

I understand this isn't something you can resolve yourself if the required verification depends on an organization you can no longer access.

In this case, Microsoft Support is the appropriate next step because they can investigate the account and subscription details that we cannot access through the community forum. I hope support can help you solve this issue,

    have a nice day.
