Changing the year heading cannot update the dates in current Word calendar templates; create the 2027 calendar with a calendar-maker add-in, or reuse an older macro-enabled .dotm calendar if one remains on your computer.
Recommended: generate a new 2027 calendar
The current Word calendar template is a .dotx file, which cannot contain the macros previously used to recalculate dates. Enabling macros in that file will not restore the missing Calendar tab or Calendar Wizard.^1^
- Close the current calendar without overwriting your original template.
- Download Greg Maxey’s Calendar Maker Add-In from:
https://gregmaxey.com/word_tip_pages/calendar_maker_addin.html
This is a non-Microsoft site; review the download and follow your organization’s add-in and macro-security policies.
- Install the add-in using its included instructions.
- Open desktop Word and use the add-in to select 2027, the desired month range, and calendar format.
- Generate the calendar and save the resulting document under a new name.
This replacement is specifically recommended for Word calendars whose Calendar ribbon is missing.^2^
If you previously used the old Calendar Wizard
An older Microsoft calendar may still be available as a macro-enabled .dotm template:
- In Word for Windows, select File → Open → This PC.
- Open Documents → Custom Office Templates.
- Look for an older calendar file with a
.dotm extension.
- Open that template and check whether its Calendar tab permits selecting 2027.
- If it works, create a new document from it rather than editing the template itself.
Word supports .dotm as the macro-enabled template format; .dotx is the non-macro template format.^3^ Older calendar templates previously used on the computer may remain in the configured Custom Office Templates folder.^4^
Do not simply rename a .dotx file to .dotm; that does not recreate the removed Calendar Wizard or its programming.
Microsoft-only alternative: create it in Excel
If third-party add-ins or macros are prohibited by your business, use an Excel calendar template:
- Open Excel.
- Select File → New.
- Search online templates for calendar.
- Select a calendar that supports changing the year, and choose Create.
- Set it to 2027 using the template’s year control, then print it or copy the finished calendar into Word.
Excel calendar templates can use formulas to update displayed dates automatically; manually replacing formula cells prevents that automatic updating.^5^
If a Microsoft Word template specifically labelled for 2027 later becomes available, create a fresh document from File → New and search for calendar rather than changing the heading of an older static calendar.
