    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A

Hello @Jeff Jackson I hope you are doing well,

To create Premium Azure Files shares, you need a FileStorage account type (Premium tier).

    A couple of important distinctions:

    • StorageV2 (General-purpose v2) supports Azure Files, but these are Standard file shares.
    • BlockBlobStorage supports Premium Blob Storage only and does not support Azure Files.
    • Premium Azure Files require a FileStorage account and use SSD-backed storage.

If you need both Premium Blob Storage and Premium File Shares, they must be deployed in separate storage accounts.

Premium file shares require a Premium file shares storage account type, also referred to as FileStorage.

    • StorageV2 supports Azure Files, but it is the standard general-purpose v2 account type.
    • BlockBlobStorage / Premium block blobs supports Blob Storage only, not premium file shares.
    • If both premium blobs and premium file shares are needed, they must be placed in separate storage accounts.
