Azure for Students: Academic Verification Successful, but $100 Credit and Subscription Not Activated

Hello Microsoft Support and Community,

I am trying to activate the Azure for Students offer to receive the $100 Azure credit, but I am experiencing an issue.

First, I signed in to Microsoft using my personal Microsoft account associated with a Gmail address. Then, I applied for Azure for Students using my university email address: 208120242*****@eng.zu.edu.eg.

I received an academic verification email and clicked the verification link. The Microsoft Academic Verification page displayed the following confirmation:

"Congratulations! Your academic status has been successfully verified."

However, after completing the academic verification, my Azure for Students subscription was not activated, and I did not receive the $100 credit.

I signed in to the Azure portal using the same personal Microsoft account I used during the initial registration and checked the Subscriptions page, but no subscriptions were listed.

I also tried signing in directly with my university email address, but I received this error:

"Your current account type is not supported. This account is not eligible to sign up for an Azure account. You'll need to sign up with a different personal (Microsoft account) or a work/school account."

I am a student at the Faculty of Engineering, Zagazig University, Egypt.

Could you please help me with the following?

Why was my academic status verified successfully, but my Azure for Students subscription was not created?

Is my academic verification correctly linked to my personal Microsoft account?

How can I activate my subscription and receive the $100 Azure credit without repeating the academic verification process?

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Academic verification does not by itself confirm that the Azure for Students subscription was provisioned; first check every directory associated with the personal Microsoft account, then submit a no-subscription support request if none contains the subscription.

    1. Check whether the subscription exists in another directory

Microsoft documents that No subscriptions found can occur when the portal is displaying the wrong Azure directory.^1^

    1. Sign in to the Azure portal with the personal Microsoft account used to start the application.
    2. Select the account/profile icon in the upper-right corner.
    3. Select Switch directory.
    4. Open each listed directory and check Subscriptions.
    5. If Azure for Students appears, select that directory as the current directory.

Do not assign yourself the Owner role unless a subscription actually exists and another administrator can grant access. Owner assignment cannot create a missing subscription.

    2. If it is absent everywhere, request a provisioning review

Your situation closely matches a reported case where verification and registration completed but the portal continued to show no subscriptions; the recommended next step was Microsoft Support because community participants cannot inspect subscription-provisioning records.^2^

    Use the no-subscription support link:

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2083458

    Alternatively, in the Azure portal:

    1. Select ? in the global header or open Help + support.
    2. Describe the issue as Azure for Students subscription not provisioned.
    3. Select Create a support request if offered.
    4. Choose Billing or Subscription management, rather than technical support.

Azure provides subscription-management support, and its documented support flow allows a request to be created after the suggested solutions do not resolve the issue.^3^

    Include this wording:

Academic verification for Azure for Students completed successfully using my university email, but no Azure for Students subscription or $100 credit was provisioned. I signed in with the personal Microsoft account used to initiate registration and checked all available Azure directories. Please review whether the verified academic record is associated with this Microsoft account and complete or reset the stuck subscription provisioning without requiring another academic-verification attempt.

    Also include:

    • Date and approximate time verification completed
    • Personal Microsoft account used for registration
    • University email used only for academic verification
    • Screenshot of the successful-verification page
    • Screenshot of Subscriptions showing no entries
    • Any confirmation email, correlation ID, session ID, or error text
    • Country/region selected during registration

Do not post those account details publicly.

    Account-linking and the university-email error

The available account-facing pages do not expose whether the verification record was correctly linked to your personal Microsoft account. Only Support can inspect that association.

The university address successfully proved academic status, but that does not necessarily mean it can be used as a standalone Azure sign-in identity. Microsoft documents that Your current account type is not supported can occur when an account belongs to an unmanaged Microsoft Entra directory rather than the institution’s managed directory.^4^ Because the application began under your personal Microsoft account, continue using that account while Support reviews the provisioning record; do not create another identity or repeat verification unless Support specifically directs you to do so.

If Support determines that the university account is in an unmanaged directory, taking over that directory is an organizational administrator action—not an appropriate student-level workaround.

    Eligibility versus activation

Azure for Students provides $100 credit for one year after joining, requires verification through an institution email, and is limited to one nontransferable subscription per eligible customer.^5^ Your successful academic verification establishes that the verification step completed, but the absence of both the subscription and credit indicates that activation still needs to be located or reviewed; it does not establish the exact backend cause.
