Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Use Windows File Recovery if the files were deleted from the USB drive and are no longer in the Recycle Bin.
Important: stop using the USB drive immediately. Any new files copied to it can overwrite deleted data and reduce the chance of recovery.
Steps:
- Install or open Windows File Recovery from the Microsoft Store.
- Press the Windows key, type Windows File Recovery, and open it.
- When prompted, select Yes to allow changes.
- Run recovery from the USB drive to a different drive on the PC. The source and destination drives must be different.
- Use this command format:
winfr source-drive: destination-drive: [/mode] [/switches]
Examples:
- Recover Word and PDF files from a USB drive to the PC:
Winfr E: C: /extensive /n *.pdf /n *.docx - Recover files with part of the name known:
Winfr E: C: /extensive /n *invoice*
After starting the command, enter Y to continue. Recovered files are saved in a folder named Recovery_<date and time> on the destination drive.
If the files were Word documents and Word had open recovery versions, check the Document Recovery pane in Word and open the most recent version shown there.
