Copilot Mobile App Not Syncing Conversations between new iPhone app, iMac app, and Chrome based M365 account

Since the rollout of the new CoPilot app, I now have multiple chat histories. On my iPhone, I have a greyed-out "legacy" app, a new CoPilot app, a CoPilot app on my iMac, and the Chrome based account. I have separate chat histories in each of these. CoPilot chat conversation tells me it has something to do with the difference between my personal M365 subscription and my Microsoft account. Bottom line - how and when can I get my CoPilot chats in sync?

Chats should sync now between the updated Copilot app on iPhone, macOS, and the web when every client is signed in to the same account, but personal-account and work/school-account histories cannot be combined.

Align the account on every device

A Microsoft 365 Personal subscription is attached to a personal Microsoft account; it does not make that account the same as a Microsoft Entra work or school account. Copilot supports both account types in one client, but their data remains separated by design.^1^

    1. In the new Copilot app on the iPhone, open the profile/account switcher and note the exact personal account or sign-in method selected.
    2. Repeat this in the Mac app and the Chrome web session.
    3. If an account shows a Work label, it is the work/school experience—not the personal Microsoft 365 experience.
    4. Select the same personal account in all three clients. If the account was originally created through Google or Apple, use Continue with Google or Continue with Apple, rather than entering the same-looking address through a different sign-in path.^2^
    5. In the iPhone app, open Navigation menu → Conversations. A conversation started on the computer should appear there and can then be continued on either device.^3^

Chats created while using a work/school account will remain under that account. Switching accounts changes which history is displayed; it does not transfer chats between the two identities.

What happens to the legacy history

The greyed-out legacy app is part of the transition to the updated Copilot app. On some devices, the updated experience is installed as a separate app rather than delivered as an update to the old one.^2^

    For personal accounts:

    • Chats and most eligible content are supposed to migrate automatically.
    • Histories from the two personal Copilot experiences are supposed to merge into the updated app.
    • Linked personal sign-ins can be brought together through the Microsoft account.
    • Personal and work/school content still remains separate.^4^

There is no published fixed completion time. Microsoft states that migration duration varies with the amount and type of content, and different devices can temporarily display different histories. If the app says that chats are “coming soon,” use any link shown there to access the previous history while migration continues.^2^

    After aligning the accounts:

    1. Quit and reopen Copilot on the iPhone and Mac.
    2. Refresh the Copilot page in Chrome.
    3. Allow time for migration and check Conversations again later.

    If histories remain different

If new conversations created under the same verified personal account still do not appear across devices after migration has had time to complete:

    1. In Copilot, select … → Send feedback → Report a problem.
    2. Include when the issue began, the affected device and operating system, and screenshots showing the account indicator and differing conversation lists.
    3. Remove personal or confidential information from screenshots before submitting.^2^

Do not expect histories created under a work/school account to appear under the personal Microsoft 365 account; that separation is permanent product behavior, not a synchronization fault.
