I Used to use To Do, and have recently started using Planner, now all my old lists from To Do are sitting as Plans in Planner. I have tried to delete them but can't find an option to do that. Is it possible to get rid of the old ones?

Delete those entries from Microsoft To Do, because the new Planner brings To Do lists into the same unified interface; they are not necessarily Planner plans with a Planner-side delete control.^1^

Delete an old To Do list

For each unwanted list:

  1. Open Microsoft To Do using the same work account as Planner.
  2. Select the old list.
  3. Select the three dots in the upper-right corner.
  4. Select Delete list, then confirm.^2^
  5. Return to Planner and refresh it. The list should no longer appear.

Only lists you created can be deleted. Built-in or “smart” lists such as My Day, Important, Planned, All, Completed, and Assigned to me are views rather than ordinary user-created lists and cannot be deleted.

If a list is removed accidentally, To Do lists are stored in Exchange Online and can be recovered in classic Outlook:

  1. Open Outlook with the same account.
  2. Go to Deleted Items.
  3. Find the deleted list folder.
  4. Right-click it and select Move > Other Folder > Tasks.^2^

If an entry is an actual Planner plan

If it opens as a plan with Board/Grid views rather than as a personal To Do list:

  • To remove it only from your own Planner display, go to My Plans, select the plan’s More options (…), and choose Hide.
  • To delete it permanently, open the plan and select More actions beside its name > Plan details > More options (…) > Delete plan.^3^

Deleting a Planner plan is permanent and cannot be undone. If Delete plan is absent, the plan may be group-backed and you are not its owner; in that case, hide it or leave the associated plan/group instead.

    Hi @Natalie Surgeoner ,

    I hope you're having a nice day!

To help identify exactly what is being displayed in your Microsoft Planner experience, could you please provide the following information:

    • A screenshot of one of the items you're trying to remove.
    • Whether the item opens as a personal task/list or as a Planner plan with views such as Board, Grid, Schedule, or Charts.
    • A screenshot of the available options when you select the More options (...) menu for the item.
    • Whether these lists were originally created in Microsoft To Do and are associated with the same work account currently used in Planner.

Please remove or blur any personal information before uploading images on this public forum to protect your privacy.

Based on your description, it is likely that the items you're seeing are legacy Microsoft To Do lists that are now being surfaced within the new unified Microsoft Planner experience, rather than standalone Planner plans. In this scenario, the lists would typically need to be managed or deleted from Microsoft To Do, which may explain why you cannot find a delete option directly in Planner. In this case, you can refer to the AI answer to remove these plans.

However, if the items are actual Planner plans, the available options will depend on the plan type and your permissions. For example, you may only have the option to hide the plan from your view, or the Delete plan option may only be available to the plan owner.

Once you share a screenshot and the additional details above, I'll be able to determine whether these are To Do lists or Planner plans and provide the appropriate steps to remove them.

I look forward to your response.

    Kind Regards.
