Additional features, settings, or issues not covered by specific Microsoft Teams categories
If Microsoft Teams says there is no internet even though the connection is working, use these checks:
- Try signing in again in Teams.
- Select the Sign in banner or button.
- Complete the sign-in prompts, including MFA if prompted.
- If the sign-in window does not appear, check the notification area near the clock for the Teams icon with a badge, then open it.
- If it still does not open, quit Teams from the notification area and reopen it.
- Make sure the required network is connected before opening Teams.
- If the organization requires a VPN, connect to the VPN first.
- Avoid switching between Wi-Fi, hotspot, or other networks while Teams is open.
- If Teams works in a browser but not in the desktop app, update browser trust and cookie settings.
- In Control Panel > Internet Options > Privacy > Advanced, accept First-Party and Third-Party cookies and enable Always allow session cookies.
- In Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites > Sites, add:
-
https://login.microsoftonline.com -
https://*.teams.microsoft.com
-
- Administrative rights may be required. These settings can also be deployed by Group Policy.
- Check whether Windows is detecting internet access correctly.
- Run PowerShell:
Get-NetConnectionProfile - If
IPv4Connectivityshows Internet, internet access is available. - If it shows NoTraffic or LocalNetwork, Windows is not detecting internet access correctly.
- Run PowerShell:
- If not behind a proxy, test name resolution.
- Run:
nslookup dns.msftncsi.com - If it resolves, internet access is available.
- Run:
- Test the Microsoft connectivity check URLs in a browser.
- Open:
-
http://www.msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt -
http://ipv6.msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt
-
- If they return Microsoft Connect Test, internet access is available.
- Open:
- If Windows still does not register internet access, a registry change may help.
- Warning: editing the registry can affect system networking if done incorrectly.
- Open Registry Editor.
- Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator - Create a DWORD (32-bit) Value named
UseGlobalDNSand set it to1. - Restart the device.
- If Teams still shows offline behavior, check firewall or proxy access.
- Teams connectivity issues are commonly caused by firewall or proxy restrictions.
- Required Teams URLs, IP addresses, and ports must be allowed.
If the issue started only in the Teams desktop app and Teams on the web works, the problem is likely with the desktop client sign-in path or local network detection rather than the internet connection itself.
