XBOX won't sign me in after a Windows Update 0x87DD0005

No matter what I do, I get the above error trying to sign in to Microsoft Solitaire & Casual Games. I have a subscription. I'm signed on to XBOX with my browser, but the game won't sign in and I have to play as Guest without all my settings & how far I've gotten with various games in that collection. HELP! Bots are useless and I'm spending too much time reading instead of playing. What a waste of my time. I'm getting charged for that game whether I can play it or not.

My machine installed a Windows Update before this started happening. I played yesterday for a while, so it's not my computer, dangit. How can I be logged in with my browser, but not inside the game. I supposedly cleared cache, tried to reset, and reinstalled XBOX Live and the game.

    Hi everyone,

Please STOP uninstalling your games, clearing credentials, or wiping your PCs!

Based on all the reports coming in here simultaneously, and the fact that standard troubleshooting (and even full system restores prior to the Windows updates, as Luciano mentioned) is not working, this is 100% an Xbox Live backend server outage / authentication issue.

The error code 0x87DD0005 translates to an Xbox Live service connection issue. The recent Windows updates appear to be just a coincidence in timing. When an outage like this happens, the browser sign-in often still works (because it uses standard Microsoft account web cookies), but the actual Xbox Live API that the desktop games rely on fails to authenticate.

There is no local fix for this on your PC.

We simply have to wait for Microsoft to acknowledge the outage and fix their authentication servers. You can keep an eye on the official Xbox Status page ([support.xbox.com/xbox-live-status](https://support.xbox.com/xbox-live-status)) to see when they officially report the service disruption. Save your time and do not reinstall massive games or reset your Windows installations!

Same problem on one of my computers this morning, it did updates overnight and I logged in this morning, now all of the Microsoft games give the error code 0x87DD0005 and won't sign me in. The Xbox app will sign me in and works fine. It is only the Microsoft games that are broken.

The above troubleshooting tips do not work. I restarted my PC and did the time/date sync, those didn't fix it.

Then I removed the Xbox app, Xbox Live app, Gaming Services, and uninstalled all the games, then reinstalled every one of those again, and that did not fix it.

I removed all the credentials related to my Microsoft and Xbox sign in from the Credential manager, logged back in wherever needed and that didn't fix it.

I tried to remove the updates that were installed last night but they just keep automatically reinstalling upon a forced restart.

It's broken under all of the MS Games, not just one either. I even tried to install an older version of one of the games (Jigsaw) and it still gives the same error.

When I try to access Microsoft Solitaire & Casual Games, I encounter the error mentioned above. (I have a subscription). I had been playing up until Monday, October 12, 2026. I first encountered the error last night (Tuesday). I performed all the troubleshooting steps suggested below by the AI, but with no success. I restored a system image of the C: partition created on October 7, 2026, following the installation of the Windows 26H2 update. After the restore and reboot, I immediately blocked updates—meaning I did not install the .NET Framework security updates for October 2026 (KB5127694 and KB5127648 [26300.9711])—and launched Microsoft Solitaire & Casual Games, only to encounter the same error. I then repeated all the steps recommended by the AI, again without success. I believe the issue lies directly with Microsoft and hope they will take action. I should note that my son, using the same home network, has no issues with Microsoft Solitaire & Casual Games or Forza Horizon; his account is recognized without any problems.

I’m having the same problem thought I was going crazy. I did everything out there still not fixed. Reinstalled a 170 gig game over and over to get the same error. The time and resets do nothing. Signing in and out does nothing. I’m almost at the point in trying to wiped my whole pc just to see if that would even fix it. I highly doubt it since nothing else is working

I found a fix that worked for me i believe. Please try the following and see if it works.

windows > services > Microsoft Account Sign in Assistant , double click on it and change to Auto and apply, press ok

Right click on it again and select restart.

Open XBOX app and the game and no error.

As i said it worked for me and i tried everything else on the list. Try and see if it works.
