Cannot download anything from the Microsoft Store. Anytime I attempt to download something, it gets stuck on verifying dependencies, then fails and gives me error code 0X80248014.

Run the Windows Update troubleshooter and start the Windows Update service, because error 0x80248014 is documented as a Windows Update database problem or a stopped update service—even when it appears during a Microsoft Store download.^1^

    1. Repair the Windows Update service

    1. Open Start → Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.
    2. Find Windows Update, select Run, and complete the suggested repairs.
    3. Press Win + R, enter services.msc, and press Enter.
    4. Find Windows Update:
      • If it is stopped, right-click it and select Start.
      • If it is already running, right-click it and select Restart.
    5. Restart Windows, open Microsoft Store, and retry the download.

Also open Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates and install anything pending. Store installations depend on access to Windows Update components and endpoints.^2^

    2. Update or reset Microsoft Store

    1. Open Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates.
    2. Allow any Microsoft Store update to finish, restart the Store, and test again.^3^
    3. If downloads still stop at Verifying dependencies, open: Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Microsoft Store → Advanced options.
    4. Select Repair first. If that does not resolve it, select Reset.

Resetting clears the Store’s local app data, so you might need to sign in again.

    3. Check the Store installation service

If the Store still cannot install any application:

    1. Press Win + R, enter services.msc, and press Enter.
    2. Double-click Microsoft Store Install Service.
    3. If disabled, change Startup type to Automatic, select Start, and then OK.
    4. If it is running, right-click it and select Restart.
    5. Retry the download.^4^

Do not manually download the dependencies shown during this Store operation. For Microsoft Store distribution, framework dependencies are supposed to be downloaded and installed automatically; manual dependency installation applies to sideloaded or enterprise packages.^5^

    4. Verify or re-register Microsoft Store

Do not uninstall Microsoft Store; Microsoft’s current troubleshooting guidance states that completely uninstalling it is unsupported. Instead, verify its registration.

Open a regular, non-administrator PowerShell window and run:

    Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.WindowsStore*

    • If package information appears and Status is Ok, the Store is registered.
    • If no package is returned, open PowerShell as administrator and check whether the package exists for another user:
    Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.WindowsStore* -AllUsers

If that command returns Store package details, return to a non-administrator PowerShell window for the affected account and register it:

    Add-AppxPackage -RegisterByFamilyName `
      -MainPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe

Using a non-elevated window for the final command registers the Store for the currently signed-in user rather than only for the administrator account.^2^

    5. Workaround and network-specific fallback

To install an app while troubleshooting the Store UI, open PowerShell and use Windows Package Manager:

    winget search "application name"
    winget install "application name"

If this PC uses a corporate proxy, firewall, VPN, filtering DNS, or managed network, have the administrator verify that Microsoft Store and Windows Update endpoints are not blocked. The Store requires Windows Update endpoint access to install and update applications.^2^
