Install Office 2024 from the Microsoft account used for the original activation—the “product key has already been used” message means the key was successfully redeemed and is not used again for reinstallation.[^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/microsoft-365-activation-licensing/this-product-key-has-already-been-used-error-in-office ""This product key has already been used" error in Office | Microsoft Support")

Install Office on the new computer

    1. Open Services & subscriptions:
      https://account.microsoft.com/services
    2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account used when Office 2024 was first installed.
    3. Find Office Home 2024 and select Install.
    4. Run the downloaded installer and complete the prompts.
    5. Open Word or Excel. If activation is requested, choose Sign in and use that same Microsoft account—do not enter the product key again.

Microsoft’s detailed PC and Mac installation instructions confirm that a previously redeemed copy is downloaded by signing in with its associated account.^2^

    Transfer requirement

Office 2024 purchased as a one-time license can be installed on only one PC or Mac at a time. It may be transferred to another computer you own, normally no more than once every 90 days; the 90-day restriction does not apply when transferring sooner because of hardware failure.^3^

If the old computer still starts, uninstall Office from it. If it no longer works well enough to uninstall Office, proceed with the account-based installation above.

If Office 2024 is missing or activation is refused

    • Try any other Microsoft account that may have been used when the key was first redeemed.
    • If Office 2024 appears in Services & subscriptions but activation says the device limit has been reached, use the activation wizard if it appears.
    • If the license remains assigned to the old computer and no transfer option is offered, open the Contact support section on Microsoft’s product-key support page and request an Office 2024 license transfer due to hardware failure.^4^

Keep the purchase receipt available in case support requests proof of purchase.
