What device do you have for scanning? On my new Epson printer XP-7100 using my app Epson Scan 2 I select where I want to save the scan before I start the scan. The scan is placed in a file for the type of document etc. I am scanning.

I suggest you read the User Manual for your printer/scanner.

    Hi, @Sandra Knuppel

Have you already checked your "Documents" and "Pictures" folders? Scanned files are commonly saved there, depending on the app or scanner you used.

You can also open File Explorer and search for:

    • *.pdf
    • *.jpg
    • *.png

Then sort the results by "Date modified" to find the most recent scan.

If you still cannot find it, what app or printer/scanner did you use to scan the file?

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Thanks!

Common places to check for scanned files in Windows 11:

    1. Open File Explorer and check Pictures for a Scans folder.
    2. If the scan was created by scanning software, open that app and check its scan destination setting.
    3. Search the whole PC:
      • Open File Explorer.
      • Select This PC.
      • In the search box at the top right, search for *.jpg or *.pdf.
      • Sort by Date modified to find the newest scan.
    4. If the file still does not appear, some files may be hidden:
      • Open Settings > System > Advanced.
      • Expand File Explorer.
      • Turn Show hidden and system files On.

If the scan was made with the Camera app in document mode, open the scanned image thumbnail in the app, then select Open Folder from the ellipsis menu to go directly to the saved file location.
