Additional Microsoft Entra services and features related to identity, access, and network security
The Microsoft.com tenant administrator or privacy contact must delete your disabled guest object; error AADSTS500571 prevents the self-service Leave operation from completing.
Request directory-side removal
- On My Account → Organizations, locate Microsoft under Other organizations you collaborate with.
- Select Privacy statement and use the displayed privacy-contact information to request removal. Alternatively, contact the former Team owner, inviter, or Microsoft.com sponsor and ask them to route the request to the tenant administrator.
- Include:
- Your sign-in address.
- That this is a B2B collaboration guest in the Microsoft.com tenant.
- Error AADSTS500571: The guest user account is disabled.
- A request to delete the guest user object from Microsoft Entra ID, not merely remove it from the Team.
- The sign-in request and correlation IDs and timestamp from the failed sign-in, if requested. Avoid posting those identifiers publicly.
Microsoft documents that AADSTS500571 means the guest object is disabled in the resource tenant. If it should remain disabled, access stays blocked; actions such as enabling or deleting it must be performed by the resource-tenant owner.^1^
The documented self-leave process explicitly cannot complete when the external account is disabled. In that condition, the external organization’s administrator or privacy contact must remove the account.^2^ Repeating Leave, using a private browser, or resetting your home-account password will not remove the directory object.
After the administrator confirms deletion
Deletion and the Teams display are separate states:
- Allow several hours for the organization list to update.
- In Teams, select the profile menu and Sign out.
- Close Teams completely, reopen it, and sign in to your home tenant again.
Microsoft notes that a removed organization can take a few hours to disappear from Teams, after which signing out and back in refreshes the organization list.^3^
An administrator’s normal deletion initially moves a B2B guest object to Deleted users. Permanent deletion can be performed by the tenant administrator, but it is irrevocable; otherwise, permanent deletion begins after the soft-deletion period.^2^
If no Microsoft.com contact responds
Ask an administrator of your home tenant to open a Microsoft Entra support request and provide the error code, timestamp, request ID, correlation ID, and the fact that the resource tenant is Microsoft.com. Support requests can be initiated from Microsoft Entra admin center → Diagnose and solve problems → Create a support request; creating one requires an appropriate support role.^4^
Clearing local Teams data can only remove a stale client-side display after directory deletion is confirmed; it cannot delete or enable the guest object in Microsoft.com.
