An Azure service that is used to set up labs for classrooms, trials, development and testing, and other scenarios.
Submit a Credentials Support request to report the unreachable lab machine and consumed attempt; Microsoft Q&A cannot restore or adjust an Applied Skills assessment attempt.
Report the failed attempt
- Open Credentials support.
- Select Online support request.
- In the request form, choose:
- Product family: Learning
- Product or Service: Microsoft Credentials
- Category: The closest option for an Applied Skills assessment-lab technical issue
- Type of Support: Professional No Charge
- Contact method: Email
- Include:
- Assessment name: Streamline business workflows with Microsoft 365 Copilot
- Date, time, and time zone of the attempt
- Your Microsoft Learn username
- Exact message: “Unable to establish a connection after multiple attempts. The machine may still be starting or is unreachable.”
- A statement that the VM never became accessible and the attempt was consumed
- The screenshot shown here
- Any session or lab ID available
Credentials Support is the documented escalation route for Applied Skills issues, and support for these requests is provided by email.^1^
Support determines whether any adjustment is available; this cannot be performed through an Azure Lab Services Q&A thread.
Retaking the assessment
An Applied Skills lab that ends abruptly still counts as an attempt. The standard policy allows another attempt from your Learn profile 72 hours after the last attempt.^2^
To check:
- Sign in to Microsoft Learn with the same account.
- Open your profile and review the assessment attempts.
- After 72 hours, select the applicable assessment lab to retake it.
Before the next attempt
Run the Lab Orientation & Connectivity Check from the assessment-lab FAQ before starting another scored session. Also use a current Edge or Chrome browser, enable third-party cookies, and avoid a VPN, managed work device, or restricted corporate network where possible. The labs require compatible network access, including HTTPS connectivity; Microsoft also recommends a wired connection when disconnects occur.^3^
If the same message appears during a future live attempt, select Reconnect immediately. The documentation states that reconnecting within 15 minutes after a disconnection preserves the work; if the machine remains unreachable, capture the error and session details before the timer expires.^3^
