Microsoft 365 Business account locked out due to Authenticator MFA issue

Hello,

I have an active Microsoft 365 Apps for business subscription, but I am unable to sign in to my business account because of a Microsoft Authenticator MFA issue.

I can enter my password successfully, but Microsoft then requires me to approve a notification in the Authenticator app or enter a verification code.

The approval notification never arrives, and the business account in my Authenticator app does not display a verification code.

I have already reset my password, but the MFA problem remains. I also cannot access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center or the security information page because both require the same authentication.

My Microsoft Authenticator works correctly for my personal Microsoft account, but not for my business account.

I am not sure whether I am the sole administrator of the business tenant. I need help identifying the appropriate recovery process and contacting Microsoft support to reset or re-register my MFA methods after verifying my identity and ownership of the account.

Could you please advise how I can reach the appropriate Microsoft 365 business account recovery or Data Protection team without signing in to the locked account?

Thank you.

    Hi לירן פלרמן ,

If you’re still unable to reach an agent, there’s a workaround you can try. You may consider registering for a new tenant by signing up for a trial subscription using this link: Compare All Microsoft 365 Plans | Microsoft. This would allow you to create a new tenant following the provided prompts. Once set up, you can access the admin console of the new tenant and submit a support ticket requesting to speak with the Data Protection team on behalf of your previous tenant.

Please remember to cancel the trial subscription once your issue is resolved to avoid any unintended charges.

I’m truly sorry that I can’t directly assist with submitting the ticket. I sincerely hope you’ll be able to regain access to your account soon.

If you need help or have any questions during the process, please feel free to reach out — I’m always here and happy to assist.

Thank you again for your understanding and patience.

    Hi לירן פלרמן ,

After checking your tenant, I can confirm that you are currently the only administrator.

In this situation, you will need assistance from the Microsoft Data Protection team. Please find the Microsoft customer service phone number for your country/region and contact the frontline support team so they can help you open a service request: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

In some countries, this is an automated conversation: First, when you call the hotline, they will ask you what kind of problem you are struggling with.

    Answer: Authenticator.

A: What products do you use?

    B: Office 365 for business.

    Verification: Education or company account?

    B: For companies

    A: Are you an administrator?

    B: Yes.

A: Are there any other administrators in your organization?

    B: No.

A: I need one.... Service request?

    B: Yes

If your organization's Office 365 Business/Education subscription is from a partner or reseller, and the global administrator is unable to open a service request on your end, contact the reseller's support provider to help open a service request on behalf of you instead.

If you still cannot reach to agent, there is still a workaround, you might consider registering for a new tenant by signing up for a trial subscription via this link Compare All Microsoft 365 Plans | Microsoft. I understand that this entire process can feel long and complicated, and I truly appreciate your patience while working through it. These steps are in place to protect the security of your account, so I hope you can understand why they are required. I sincerely hope you’ll be able to regain access to your account soon. If you need help at any point, or if you have any questions during the process, please feel free to reach out, I’m always here and happy to assist.

Thank you again for your understanding and patience.

    Hello לירן פלרמן ,

Please let me know your domain so I can check if there are any other administrators in your tenant.

If you have been the only administrator since the beginning and haven’t assigned the Global Administrator role to anyone else, you are likely the sole administrator.

Once that’s confirmed, I can provide the appropriate methods to reset your MFA.
