My username is racist in some countries and I need urgent help it's not well known but I could get banned from my favorite smp if I don't change it so I need a free name change

Just a heads up that this is a public community forum run by regular users like you, so none of us work for Microsoft and we cannot hop into your account or hand out free name changes.

To figure out how to get you out of this jam, I really need to know what exact version of Minecraft you are playing. Are you playing Java Edition on a computer, or are you on Bedrock Edition which uses an Xbox Gamertag? The way you change your username is completely different depending on which one you use.

Let me know which version it is so I can figure out what your options are.

Bedrock uses your Xbox account for your in-game name, so every account gets one free Gamertag change, and if you have not used yours yet you can swap it right now for free.

Open your browser and head over to social.xbox.com/changegamertag and sign in with the Microsoft account you use for Minecraft. Type in the new name you want into the box and click the button to check availability. On the next screen before you finalize anything, it will tell you if this change is free or if it is going to charge you. If you still have your freebie available, just confirm it there and your name will update across Bedrock right away.
