Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Hi Nirmal Niazi
I understand how frustrating this is, especially when the Gmail address is already listed as an alias but Microsoft repeatedly shows the message that it cannot be made primary.
Before trying again, please open Sign-in preferences and confirm that the Gmail alias is enabled for signing in. Then return to Manage how you sign in to Microsoft, refresh the page, and check whether Gmail is now marked as the primary alias. You can also try the change once in an InPrivate or Incognito browser window.
Please do not remove your current Hotmail alias while troubleshooting. Removing an @hotmail.com, @outlook.com, @live.com, or @msn.com alias permanently deletes that address, and it cannot be added back later.
If Gmail is enabled for sign-in but the same message continues, the issue may require an account-level review that cannot be performed in this user-to-user forum.
- Go to Contact Microsoft Support.
- Select Show expanded list of products.
- Select Outlook > Get Home support.
- Enter Outlook live chat, then select Get Help > Contact Support.
- Sign in with the affected account. If that is not possible, use another Microsoft account to view the available support options.
- Ask our Support Assistant > Type "Talk to live chat agent" > Contact Support
- Under Products & Services, select Other Products > Outlook, then choose Chat with a support agent in your web browser.
Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators, contributors including external Microsoft employees cannot directly intervene in Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance on reported issues, requests, or ideas only.
Thank you for your understanding.
