If you have just deleted the file and it was stored on your C drive, open the Recycle Bin on your Desktop to check if the file is in there, if it is, drag the file out of the Recycle Bin onto your Desktop.

    2

If the file is not in the Recycle Bin, log into your OneDrive account in a web browser (https://onedrive.live.com/) and check if the file is available to download form there, if not, check the online OneDrive recycle bin to see if the file can be restored from there, then download the file.

    3

If you are still unable to recover the file, the best option is to use some 3rd party recovery utility to try to undelete and recover the file, and in the meantime, try to use your drive as little as possible to ensure the deleted file is not overwritten.

    Yes, often.

Try these recovery paths in order:

    1. Check the Recycle Bin first
      • Open Recycle Bin on the desktop.
      • Find the deleted file.
      • Select it and choose Restore.
      • The file returns to its previous location.
    2. If the file was stored in OneDrive
      • Open OneDrive and check the Recycle bin there.
      • If the file is present, restore it.
    3. If the file was in Teams or SharePoint
      • In Teams, go to the relevant channel.
      • Open the Shared tab.
      • Select More options > Open in SharePoint.
      • In SharePoint, open Recycle bin.
      • Select the file and choose Restore.
    4. If the file was deleted from a local drive and is not in Recycle Bin
      • Try Windows File Recovery from the Microsoft Store.
      • This is a command-line app for recovering deleted files from local storage devices such as internal drives, external drives, and USB devices.
      • It does not support cloud storage or network file shares.
      • To improve recovery chances, stop using the computer as much as possible, because new activity can overwrite the deleted file data.
    5. If the file was an Office file
      • If it was saved to OneDrive or SharePoint, check Version History or deleted items recovery.
      • If it was saved to the device and the app closed unexpectedly, Document Recovery or AutoRecover may help.

If the file is no longer in Recycle Bin and there is no OneDrive/SharePoint copy or backup, recovery may still be possible with Windows File Recovery, but the chance depends on whether the deleted data has already been overwritten.
