Try this in order:
- Check whether the device is already on the latest build for its Insider channel.
- Go to Settings > System > About and note the OS build.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program and confirm the current channel.
- Check for known issues affecting the current or next Insider build.
- Some update failures are caused by known build issues.
- If BattlEye anti-cheat is installed, there was a compatibility hold for some Insider Preview builds. That issue was resolved, but it can take up to 48 hours before the update is offered again.
- Manually check for updates.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates.
- Keep the PC powered on and signed in during off-hours so the update can finish.
- Verify Insider and Windows requirements.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program and make sure the device is enrolled in the correct channel.
- Go to Settings > System > Activation and make sure Windows is activated.
- Make sure diagnostic data settings are high enough for Insider Preview builds.
- If the update keeps failing near the end, reduce interference before retrying.
- Disconnect non-essential external devices.
- Make sure the system drive has enough free space.
- If the issue continues, file feedback.
- Open Feedback Hub and submit the issue under Install and Update > Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Update.
- Include screenshots, logs, and the current build number.
- If the device is unstable after repeated failures, use recovery options.
- Go to Settings > System > Recovery.
- Use Reset this PC to reinstall Windows on the same build.
- Or use Go back to the previous version of Windows 11 if the problem started after a recent build. This is available for up to 10 days after installing the update.
- Warning: reset, rollback, or clean install can cause data loss if files are not backed up first.
- If none of the above works, do a clean install of Windows or another Insider Preview build using an ISO.
For the game issue: if the update problem is related to BattlEye, that compatibility hold can block Insider updates until the safeguard is removed. Once removed, Windows Update should offer the build automatically after the delay period.
